Forgiato Wheels

When i was browseing around the internet i seen a wicked BMW and had to know what wheels it was rocking. Turns out it is from a company called Forgiato wheels. I really like their style. Forgiato was one of the first companys to bring out the transparent wheels at the sema show last year.

Here is a little bit about them taken from their website.

“Forgiato was launched in 2005. In 2002, we started by importing wheels from the far east. Unhappy with the quality product we were getting, IN 2006 we sold our import business and moved forward to pursue our goal to offer the Forgaito wheel line to the most extreme high end vehicle owners. We have combined our knowlege of the art of jewelry manufacturing with technological advancements in CNC automation. We use all american alloy parts. The end result is wheels that look and perform like fine piaget watches that are proudly made in the usa using all american parts.”

“We were in 2006 and continue to be proud to announce and produce the line of 3-peice Forgiato wheels. Manufactured to exacting tolerances, Forgiato offers the discriminating auto enthusiast an unrivaled choice in expression, performance and reliability. Forgiato combines a leading design philosophy with modern construction technology. High grade aluminum inner and outer halves along with forged 6061T6 Heat Treated CNC Machined centers bring those ideas to life. All done in house in our california facility.”

Tips on Buying Wheels

If your looking to purchase your first set of wheels and tires on the internet then you’re going to need to find out a few things. First of all you need to find out what bolt pattern and offset your car uses and then go from there. You can find out that information at Wheel Fitment Guide online for most car and truck wheel applications.

Now that you know your bolt pattern and wheel offset you can start the hunt. You should also keep in mind if you have a big brake kit that may limit your options, Since not all wheels can fit around such big brakes. A Example of this would be the G35 coupe with the brembo package or the 350Z brembo edition etc.

There is tons of online retailers for wheels selling almost over 1000 brands. Some retailers offer a wheel search that can narrow down wheels that fit your ride and then others just list the bolt pattern and offset. A lot of times it is better to go with a authorized dealer since they can help you out with warranty issues such as fadeing and paint chipping or problems such as a bad chromeing process. Most sites that are authorized display small logos that they are a authorized distributor for that brand. Some companys even sell their old wheel stock on ebay so always take a quick look it may save you alot of money.

You should also be aware that some wheel cleaning products are not to be used on some kinds of wheels. For example some wheels are made from a spray on chrome style paint… while that is fine and they look really good if you use the wrong chrome wheel cleaner in a few days you could see the paint flakeing right off. So always read the directions and sometimes its just better to put in some elbow grease on and not some do it all in 1 minute foam cleaner.

Now here is a tip that will save you problems in the long run. If you ever damaged or curbbed a wheel then you found out pretty fast most dealers hate dealing with single wheels. Why would they break up a set of four and then be left with 3 singles. And the ones that do email you back with stock know they will not break up that set unless your paying a pretty penny.

If you email them about a single wheel and chances are you did not buy the set from them they will ignore you 80% of the time… Same goes with single center caps. What dealer wants to do the leg work checking for a 10 dollar center cap. So the next time you order a set of wheels see if they can give you a deal on a extra wheel and center cap. When i worked at a wheel shop i’d always sell a lot of wheel sets of five and would always have people come in the next week saying thank god they got a extra wheel since they smoked a pot hole that next day. Replaceing a 205/40/17 tire is never a issue since they are widely stocked but try finding a wheel like a Lexani Crystal in a days notice. Then others days we would have people coming in begging us to take one of our display wheels out of he window to sell them. But others were not so lucky… try waiting for a container ship coming from japan to the usa with a dummy tire.

Discontinued wheels is another issue. What if a dealer can’t even get you another wheel since they were no longer in production. Most wheel companys drop atleast 2 old wheels styles out of their line per year. My best advice would to check out ebay and set a search reminder to email you with matches of say “ADR sokudo Gold 4×100″ / “Sokudo Single”or post a ad in their new “Want it Now Section” Good luck and a hope this guide helps you out.

Discontinued Wheels and how to find them

So you just woke up, got a coffee and started your daily drive to work like every other morning. Only this morning you don’t happen to see that pothole the size of a football field and smoke it going 90. Well chances are you bent your rim and are going to need a new wheel. You drop by the local wheel shop you bought them at last year and they tell you that they can’t order them anymore since they are discontinued or backordered. So you start your search on the internet since you don’t plan on converting your car to a 3 wheeler any time soon and find a site like this to help you out. There is hope you don’t have to rock that dummy time forever!

Here are a few tips that will help you along your journey of finding that golden wheel. First thing I would do is call the manufacturer direct if you can find a number for them and ask if they might know who ordered a big shipment of that style of wheel last year. They may be like oh well wheelmax.com ordered 90 sets in spring they might still have a few. Your next choice is to start calling around dealers of that brand and ask them if they have any old display wheels on their rack they might part with. Most dealers get display wheels for dirt cheap so if they have the wheel you need on the rack they won’t mind pocketing the 150 bucks profit for a wheel that would otherwise just be sitting there. At the old wheel shop I worked at we used to send wheel racks full of discontinued alloy wheels off to get melted for scrap since it was not worth our time to find people who wanted them online. Another great place to look is on eBay since there may be someone that wrote off their car yet they still have one good wheel and they list it. I know you’re thinking well an eBay listing is only 10 days max so I don’t want to be checking everyday for a needle in a hay stack. EBay has a cool feature called saved searches and will show you how to use it. Favorite Searches lets you quickly find new items that you really want. You can even have eBay email you when new items matching your favorite search appear.

Wheels Ebay

Step 2: Type in the Wheel name and click Search then wait for the results and click (Save This Search)

Ebay Wheels

Step 3: Enter price just below what you think a set might cost so it emails singles only.

Rims Ebay

Now you are done and eBay will email you every time they get a match for a auction with the discontinued wheel you need. You can also get creative like adding a few more saved searches like sokudo 8 integra, sokudo 8 single, sokudo 4×100. This is a great feature offered by eBay and is great for finding almost anything rare and hard to find. Now let’s double your odds since most web forums archive posts forever most results for people selling single wheels will be 2 years old and you need to be on top of that deal. Google offers a really cool tool called google alerts that can email you new fresh search results as they are crawled. Put in the names of your wheels and select how often they want Google to email you. You can add a few more keywords to target your alerts a bit better like for sale, selling, discontinued used etc.

Google Alerts

Ok so you got your eBay search setup and Google alerts. Is there anything thing else you can do? One last thing I’d recommend is eBay’s new service they just added called want it now. Want It Now let’s buyers post requests for hard-to-find items and allows sellers to respond to those requests with eBay listings. So you may just have someone do you a favor and find you. If we have your wheel listed on wheeldb.com we may also have similar wheels listed that look exactly the same or better yet are the exact same just a rebrand. Ever wonder why some wheel companies seem to have all the same wheels just maybe in a different color? It’s because a lot of the time they are both ordering from the same wheel manufacturer in china, Japan, Philippines etc. If the wheel is made in another color still buy it and maybe use it as a chance to make the wheels a custom color. There is pretty much a place in every town that can refinish wheels or powder coat them.Good LuckIf anyone else has some tips to share add them to the comments.

PIAA Wheels Added

When you think of PIAA you may think of a aftermarket bulb manufacturer. But PIAA is now in the wheel business and showing that they have a lot more to offer then just quality hid kits and bulbs.  What can you expect from a company like PIAA. Well for starters PIAA wheels are warranted against structural manufacturing defects for 3 years from the date of purchase. This warranty is void if the wheel shows signs of impact damage. This warranty is void if application is not approved by PIAA Corporation, USA as outlined in the published application guide and price sheet. Warranty is void if the wheel is altered in any way (including, but not limited to: disassembly of multi-piece wheels, painting, chroming, polishing, machining, or drilling). Warranty is void if a centering ring system wheel is used without the correct centering ring.

PIAA also offers all the wheel weights for each wheel. Something alot of other wheel companys tend not to pay attention to but there is lots of people in autocross / drag racing etc that would like that data. If you are a wheel dealer PIAA does alot of the hard work for you. They provide a well made wheel fitment guide that they offer in adobes PDF format. This guide has almost every car company from Acura, Honda, BMW, Toyota, SABB, SCION, SATURN and shows the cars offset, bolt pattern, hub bore and even the reccomended tire size.
